Andrew is a Building Surveyor in the EK London team.
He graduated from Reading University in 2018, and is gaining experience whist working towards his Chartership. He may have stumbled across this career path, but is now making strides, as we found out during the interview…
Q Andrew, what made you decide to become a Building Surveyor?
In all honesty, I stumbled across the role and fell in love with it. During my A-levels, I shadowed a local company and thoroughly enjoyed using the laser distance measurer and being out onsite regularly.
Q. What is the most unexpected discovery you’ve made on a site visit?
To date, I have not found anything too out of the ordinary. However, I enjoy the wide variation of the places we inspect and the range of people you meet!
Q. What has been your proudest surveying job or project to date?
We recently Issued PC on an external redecorations and repair project of a block of flats in Maida Vale. Prior to the works, the property was in desperate need of repair. The end result was stunning, and truly a satisfying result to an enjoyable project.
Q. What is your favourite building in the world?
Although I do not have one clear favourite, I do enjoy traditionally built properties. I also have a soft spot for the Burj Khalifa, being the largest building in the world, and of beautiful architecture.
Q. Describe EK in 5 words!
Fun, supportive, encompassing, forward thinking
