The Victorian residential block is located in a seaside location and the external fire escape to the rear of the building has fallen into disrepair over the years making it unsafe to use in the event of emergency.
Owing to its location, and to minimise future maintenance costs, the decision was taken not to replace the fire escape. In response we have undertaken a measured survey of the rear elevations and produced annotated drawings which we have submitted as part of a building control application to ensure that the removal of the external fire escape is in compliance with current fire safety regulations.
