Historic Building Repair and Maintenance

Overview

Earl Kendrick were appointed by the client property manager and the directors of the management company to design and specify an external decorations and repair programme for this Grade II recently converted former university campus designed by acclaimed Victorian architect E W Mountford, who also designed The Old Bailey. Originating from the turn of the twentieth century, Kingsway Square consists of six identifiable blocks ranging in age from the 1890s to some new build sections completed in 2008. No major redecoration or repair work had taken place since the developer-led conversion in the mid-noughties and Earl Kendrick were brought in to manage and design a programme of work to fit the budget and aims of the directors of the RMC.

After various discussions we achieved a three-phase split prioritising the most urgent areas where active leaks were known to exist, and tendered the project achieving overall prices in the £900k to £1.1m range. We organised a face to face meeting at our own offices with the two leading contractors, the property manager and the directors of the RMC, and assisted them in choosing the right contractor for them for the job.

This project will span 2 years and is coming to site in March 2020, so if you’re passing by Battersea, do have a look for yourself and see how we’re getting along.
