We have an exciting opening for an additional building surveyor to join our growing EK West division. Ideally you’ll have 1-3 years of post-graduate experience in building surveying already and have started your APC. However, we are very flexible and would welcome candidates from early APC through to those already chartered. If you are on your APC journey, we have an excellent track record of providing support throughout and a great pass track record!
Since the division is fairly small, though with the support of a winder national network of offices including Brighton, London and Manchester, we feel the role would likely suit someone who’s worked for a smaller company previously, or perhaps worked in a larger company and hasn’t had the opportunity to excel and lead new challenges.
This role would suit someone who wants to expand their knowledge and become part of a bigger team, whilst still being a credible contributor to our West office. We look for technical excellence in what we do and encourage creative, independent thinking. One thing you’ll never be is bored, as no two days are ever the same! There is a huge opportunity to take on various different project challenges with a variety of clients and interesting work. We work across residential blocks of flats, individual dwellings, commercial units to properties that form large private estates, and even coastal pavilions and thatched barns.
In joining our growing West office, it’d suit someone who is flexible and confident in approach, though there is plenty of knowledge within the firm that you can utilise. You don’t have to know everything, but it’s important to show aptitude, and an inquisitive spark that shows you can become brilliant! A willing listener who is eager to learn, with an amiable character and who is able to fit in to a dynamic team of like-minded, smart people.
Working mainly from home and very occasionally an office, you will be encouraged to organise your own diary, but we understand time is also an asset and try to keep you close to home so you have more time to do the things you want to, and not spent travelling too much. We are a sociable bunch, with plenty of opportunity to meet and socialise with the wider group and take part in all manner of activities, if you wish!
Ultimately you will run your own projects, form strong relationships with clients and contractors, whilst being commercially aware and forming an integral addition to the firm.
We are a forward thinking practice that has a range of personalities and a lot of technically great people and we want you to be one of them. Our work takes us all over the UK but the role we are looking to fill is for our West office and staying within a broadly defined area, which we can explain. We are very flexible on where you are based – from Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Devon, Gloucester to Plymouth. We just ask that you too are flexible and ideally have your own car, which you will receive milage on.
Visiting and inspecting various residential or commercial sites between Gloucestershire, Bournemouth and Torquay for the purposes of preparing PPM’s, defect inspections, schedules of condition, getting involved with CA work, and assisting with project work from the common to the mind bending stuff. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical. You may need to assist staff or be responsible for the delivery of a job from start to finish.
We expect excellent verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of MS Office. Plus you will ideally have a university degree from the UK, preferably in surveying or a construction related topic. Though if you have a non-cognate degree, together with a year or two of surveying experience, then we would also be keen to talk. If you don’t have a degree but have several valuable years’ of building surveying experience and a good work history, we’d also be keen to talk. Personality is key, as well as your knowledge. CAD skills an added bonus.
You must be a car owner with a valid UK licence and expected to drive to sites for which mileage will be reimbursed.
There is a full list on our website, but to name a few, providing agreed goals/targets are met, you can take advantage of unlimited holiday! Plus, enjoy group organised away days, ski trips and charity days as well as ultra flexible working. We are known within our sector and we are good at what we do because the people that work with us are good at what they do. Its why we pick up awards as often as we do. For the right person, there is progression, reward, recognition and personal development.
You will also receive a company laptop, work mobile and company branded clothing for site visits, should you wish to wear! Probably the most valuable benefit is the exposure of the human knowledge you can readily tap into, which is found in very few practices.
We embrace difference and promote individuality and equality. We know that a diverse workforce is far more valuable, creative and productive. We want to continue to attract, develop and retain a diverse and inclusive working environment. We welcome, we listen, we work together – We are EK.
